Imagine baking the perfect crunchy cookie. To achieve the ideal crunchiness, we can adjust the baking temperature and cookie size. After baking, we rate the crunchiness on a scale from zero to one. If we could rate it for all combinations of temperatures and sizes, we would create a hilly landscape of crunchiness values with peaks and valleys. Our goal is to find the highest peak, a sweet optimization challenge! In real-world scenarios, this optimization becomes more complex, with many more parameters, forcing us to explore a multidimensional landscape. When this happens, one clever strategy is to search the landscape in parallel, where multiple paths are explored simultaneously. Quantum algorithms come into play here, leveraging superposition and the so-called tunnel effect, which allows to look through complicated peaks and make the search more efficient.
