An all-seeing creature, can it predict our fate?
As Pierre-Simon Laplace gazed upon the vast cosmos, he imagined the existence of an all-seeing creature that can predict the fate of the entire universe: The Laplace Demon. But as fascinating as the existence of such a being may seem, it is not without challenges: To predict the future, the demon requires knowledge of the positions, velocities, and forces acting upon every single particle in the vast expanse of the universe. Besides the task of gathering and processing this immense amount of data, the butterfly effect also reminds us that minor errors can result in dramatic differences. With the speed of light setting a fundamental limit to the horizon the demon can observe and quantum mechanics posing yet another challenge, the obstacles for such a creature are far too grant for us to even consider its existence. Or are they
Why do scientists conjure demons in their imagination?
